aCompany – Endpoint configuration and troubleshooting

Task instructions

Students will complete this project inside and outside of class according to the project brief below.

“aCompany” has asked for your help in setting up and configuring new endpoints into their existing infrastructure. You will be required to complete a prototype of the desired network topology in Packet Tracer before then deploying two virtual machines and configuring them to the client specifications. This project is broken up into the following parts:

1. Connecting the Devices (simulated topology) (Packet Tracer)

Complete the Packet tracer 13.1.10 Packet Tracer - Configure a Wireless Network. Once you have completed this activity, the completion progress marker will display 100%. You will need to save this file and move on to the next step. Do not move on to the next step until you have completed the activity to 100%.

1. Troubleshooting network connectivity issues (Packet Tracer)

Using the same packet tracer configured above. There are two devices in this activity that have unknown connectivity issues. You will need to diagnose and fix the connectivity for these 2 devices. Once you have found the cause you then need to implement the fix and verify connectivity to the rest of the network. The two devices that need troubleshooting are:

● Broken PC

● Broken Laptop

Once part one and two are complete save your packet tracer file as VU23214-AT2--StudentID.pka. Attach this packet tracer file along with this completed assessment task before uploading to StudentWeb.

1. Installation and configuration of a Windows endpoint (virtual machine 1)

You are now ready to deploy the first PC, using virtualisation software of your choice (VMware Workstation Pro / Fusion for Mac recommended). You will be required to install and configure a Windows endpoint according to the specification sheet provided after these instructions. There are several screenshots you will need provide to complete this task please read the specification carefully before starting.

You are now ready to deploy the second PC, using virtualisation software of your choice (VMware Workstation Pro / Fusion for Mac recommended). You will be required to install and configure a Linux endpoint according to the specification sheet provided after these instructions. There are several screenshots you will need provide to complete this task please read the specification carefully before starting.

1. Configuration and Connection of virtual machines (virtual machine 1 and 2)

You will now be required to connect these two PCs together to verify they have been added to the network and can communicate together. Some tests have been created for you to complete to ensure your virtual machines are configured correctly. Complete the tests on the pages following these instructions.

There are knowledge questions to be completed on the pages following these instructions. Complete the knowledge questions then upload your completed assessment task to StudentWeb.

Complete each section of the project below, providing your screenshots and written responses in the spaces provided. When uploading this task to StudentWeb you must also attach the completed PKA file from section two of this project.

Section 1 - Connecting the Devices (simulated topology) (Packet Tracer)

Task 1

Complete the packet tracer 13.1.10 Packet Tracer - Configure a Wireless Network. Make sure to download the PKA file from the assessment section of StudentWeb as this file has been modified for your assessment task.

Objectives

● Connect to a wireless router

● Configure the wireless router

● Connect a wired device to the wireless router

● Connect a wireless device to the wireless router

● Add an AP to the network to extend wireless coverage

● Update default router settings

Introduction

In this activity, you will configure a wireless router and an access point to accept wired and wireless clientsand route IP packets to a wired network. Furthermore, you will also update some of the default settings.

Instructions

Part 1: Connect to a Router

● Connect Admin to WR.

● Configure Admin to use DHCP.

● Connect to the WR Web Interface.

● Configure the Internet Port of WR.

Part 2: Configure the Wireless Settings

● Configure the WR SSID.

● Configure wireless security settings.

● Connect the Wireless Clients.

Part 3: Connect Wireless Clients to an Access Point

● Configure the Access Point.

● Connect the Wireless Clients.

Part 4: Other Administrative Tasks

● Change the WR Access Password.

● Change the DHCP address range in WR.

Once you have completed this packet tracer, the activity completion will show 100%. Save this file before moving onto to section 2.

You do not need to upload this file as you will be modifying it in section 2.
